It’s the end of 2024 again. In last year’s article, 2024 New Year Resolution,” I mentioned 10 things I wanted to accomplish in 2024.

To be honest, 2024 brought quite a lot of changes, whether in mindset, identity, or lifestyle.

It’s hard to determine whether some of these changes are good or bad, but at least, for the most part, they aligned with my inner desires. Even so, life inevitably comes with certain uncontrollable events.

I plan to use this article to reflect on those goals and set my objectives for 2025 in the latter part of the article.

2024 To-Do List

For the following 10 items, I will evaluate them in three levels:

  • Circle (○) indicates that the goal was achieved.
  • Triangle (△) indicates it was mostly achieved.
  • Cross (×) indicates it was not achieved.

Keep learning (△)

Continuous learning has always been something I consider crucial for personal growth, both in handling tasks and in shaping one’s mindset.

Despite encountering some challenges along the way, I largely managed to stick to this plan throughout 2024.

Complete my master’s degree (○)

The biggest transition this year was undoubtedly moving on from being a student, a journey that lasted nearly 20 years.

I was fortunate enough to complete my master’s thesis defense at the end of July and officially graduated in early September.

As for the journey through my master’s degree, I think there’s no need to elaborate here — you can find the details in this article.

Find a desired job (○)

From October 2023 to July this year, I participated in interviews with around 10 companies, either by applying on my own or through interview invitations from various HR teams.

I learned a lot from the interview process and kept records of the outcomes, repeatedly reflecting on which aspects of my interview skills needed improvement.

Ultimately, I was fortunate to secure a good job at the end of July. Starting next year, I’ll be working as a software engineer in Hsinchu.

Road running (21k to 42k) (×)

Participating in running events has always been something I consider highly challenging.

As the running time gets longer and the distance farther, it becomes clear that this is no simple task.

Preparation requires constant training and an understanding of one’s physical and mental state.

Unfortunately, I didn’t achieve my goal of completing a marathon this year.

However, I did participate in three running events:

  1. Half marathon in Hsinchu
  2. 9-kilometer Easter Run
  3. Campus run at National Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University

LeetCode Contest Ranking 1800+ (×)

In the field of computer science, a LeetCode rating is quite an important benchmark as it reflects one’s proficiency in competitive programming.

As of now, my rating is 1686, which means I didn’t achieve my goal of reaching 1800.

TOEIC® Listening and Reading Test (Gold Certificate) (×)

I didn’t take the TOEIC exam to achieve the goal of earning the Gold Certificate.

Read at least five books (○)

Around September, during my service period, I started reading books.

Here’s a list of the books I’ve read so far, along with my thoughts on them:

  1. The Little Prince
  2. Counselling for Toads: A Psychological Adventure
  3. How to Let Things Go
  4. Atomic Habits
  5. 情緒掌控 決定你的人生格局
  6. 底層邏輯

Be kind (△)

In general, when others need help, I tend to take the initiative to offer assistance.

Health diet (△)

Starting in October this year, I began gradually reducing my intake of refined sugars and fried foods, while focusing on consuming whole foods during my meals.

I believe I have largely achieved this goal.

Care for the people who love me or help me (△)

Among the 10 things mentioned above, this is the hardest for me to evaluate.

What I can say is that I care about those who have loved me or helped me, even though the relationship with them may not always remain as strong.

2025 To-Do List

  1. Stay health
  2. Keep learning
  3. Having a smooth work
  4. Marathon
  5. Maintaining good habits
  6. Be kind
  7. Read at least 5 books
  8. LeetCode 1800+
  9. Give a GDG speech
  10. Keep learning about myself
